iPhone XS Camera Features You Should Know
Are you ready to take your photos to a new level on the iPhone XS? Here are a few features you should know to help you create extraordinary pictures, no matter where you are.
Take pictures like a pro
Master your iPhone XS’s camera settings to take professional quality photos with amazing depth. First, go to the Settings app on your phone and scroll down to the Camera option. After you click on Camera, you’ll see a list of settings.
Make sure to turn on “Smart HDR.” Unlike HDR on older iPhones, the iPhone XS uses software, a new image signal processor, and the A12 Bionic chip along with its neural engine. These new technologies work with camera sensors inside to take nine photos, from which it chooses the best parts for each picture to create a single image in rich detail.
Make sure when you turn on Smart HDR you also turn “Keep Normal Photo” on. That way, you’ll get both the Smart HDR version and a normal pic so you can see the difference.
Play with the different photo modes
Once you have the settings the way you want them, try out each of the photos modes by swiping left or right across the options. The mode you’ll use the most is Photo, but other modes offer interesting twists.
From Time Elapse to Slo-Mo and Pano, you have plenty of options to create intriguing photos of everything. For example, Pano takes a panoramic shot of tall or wide scenes that lets viewers get the bigger picture. Another great selection is Portrait mode which automatically identifies the subject and blurs the background to make your pictures pop.
Portrait mode has been around on previous iPhone versions, but on the XS, you get much more. You can control the amount of picture that’s in focus. Simply open your picture in the Photos app and click “Edit.” You’ll see a slide ruler at the bottom that lets you control the focus of the shot. Swipe left or right to get the right amount of focus and blur.
Record videos in stereo
The iPhone XS isn’t all about amazing pictures. It also records videos in stereo thanks to four microphones that record together. You can play your videos back in stereo as well on the phone’s own stereo speakers.
To make sure your phone records in stereo, go to your Settings app and choose Camera. All you need do is switch on the Record Stereo Sound option and your videos will automatically come out with stereo sound.
Final thoughts
The iPhone XS camera is one of a kind. The more you experiment with settings, the better your pictures will be. So go ahead and kick the tires a bit, take it through its paces, whatever cliché you’re most comfortable with. But play around with the many camera features because your best photo is just a click away.
